About the practice
José Hendo is a sustainable fashion designer, circular economy advocate and social entrepreneur whose work explores innovative approaches to material reuse, responsible production and regenerative design. As founder of the José Hendo brand, she has spent over a decade challenging conventional fashion systems through the development of environmentally conscious collections that combine craftsmanship, material innovation and contemporary design. Her practice sits at the intersection of material innovation, cultural heritage and regenerative design, with a focus on reimagining how materials are sourced, valued and transformed. Her work extends beyond fashion design into education, advocacy and community-led initiatives that promote responsible consumption and production. Through Bark To The Roots CIC and the R3 Campaign, she champions awareness of textile waste, resource stewardship and the social and environmental value of alternative material futures, encouraging more circular approaches within the fashion and textile industries. José's work has been exhibited and presented internationally, contributing to conversations on sustainability, circularity and the role of design in addressing global environmental challenges. She is particularly interested in how designers can reimagine materials, extend product lifecycles and create systems that generate environmental, cultural and social value. Working across fashion, textiles and material innovation, José continues to advocate for approaches that move beyond waste reduction towards regeneration, demonstrating how design can serve as a catalyst for positive change. Through her design practice, public engagement and collaborative initiatives, she promotes a future where creativity, responsibility and innovation work together to reshape the relationship between people, materials and the environment.
