I’m Marianne, the creative mind behind Merrybeeri in Pratteln, Switzerland. I give discarded materials a new lease of life by turning old jeans, water wings, banners, umbrellas and leftover candle wax into unique handmade bags, pouches, wet bags and candles. With creativity and a love for detail, I transform what others throw away into something special: every piece with its own story to tell.

About the practice

Upcycling Workshops I love discovering the hidden potential in materials that others might throw away. In my upcycling workshops, we work with a wide variety of discarded materials and turn them into creative, practical and unique items. Whether it’s old jeans, colourful water wings or sturdy advertising banners, I’ll show you new ways to reuse materials and give them a second life. My workshops are all about trying something new, learning practical sewing skills and enjoying the creative process while making more conscious use of our resources. Upcycling Workshops for Textile Arts and Crafts Teachers: Sustainable ideas for creative, resource-conscious teaching Are you a teacher looking for fresh ideas for your textile arts and crafts lessons? In my hands-on upcycling workshop, you’ll discover how discarded materials can become creative, durable and useful projects. I’ll introduce you to a variety of upcycling materials and share practical ideas that you can adapt and use directly in your own classroom. Together, we’ll explore new techniques, experiment with different materials and develop projects that inspire pupils to think creatively about sustainability. You’ll leave with practical experience, step-by-step guidance and plenty of inspiration to bring resource-conscious making into your lessons. Sewing Weekend at Pratteln Castle, near Basel Fancy a creative escape from everyday life? Join us for a sewing weekend at the beautiful Pratteln Castle. Bring your own sewing machine and the projects you’ve been wanting to work on, and enjoy time to sew, exchange ideas and connect with like-minded people. Each morning begins with a short workshop, followed by a relaxed afternoon dedicated to your own projects. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn something new, get inspired and enjoy a creative break in a unique setting. Open Sewing Studio Have a sewing project in mind but don’t have the right machine at home? At the Merrybeeri studio, you can use a range of sewing machines, overlock machines and industrial sewing machines for thicker fabrics. Whether you want to shorten clothes, make alterations, repair a favourite item, give something a fresh look or start a completely new project, you’ll find the equipment you need. Make use of the studio facilities and bring your ideas to life in a creative space where you can sew at your own pace.
