About the practice
Bunko Junko was created around a simple idea: textile waste should be treated as a resource, not rubbish. The brand collects and reworks discarded clothing and fabric scraps, transforming them into new products through patchwork, colour-blocking, kantha-style stitching and thoughtful design. Our product range includes dresses, tunics, bottoms, jackets, shirts, accessories and home and living items such as table runners, laptop sleeves and textile wall frames. Many pieces are one-of-a-kind or made in small runs, with patchwork shrugs and colour-blocked garments reflecting the irregular nature of the waste materials they begin with. Bunko Junko is India’s first textile-upcycling brand registered with the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Beyond environmental impact, our brand centres around women’s economic participation: empowering 1,100 women through its work. Our company designes for a circular future, combining design, craftsmanship and purpose. Our impact figures include more than 1.3 million kg of CO2 avoided, over 26 million litres of water saved and more than one million textile pieces upcycled.
