About the practice
Blenderz Garment Recyclers was created to change what happens to clothing after it is no longer wanted. Rather than sending donations overseas or to landfill, the organisation reclaims textiles from individuals, charities and businesses, then sorts them for reuse in Edmonton. Its approach is deliberately local and closed-loop. Donated clothing may be resold through bulk or curated thrift sales, transformed through upcycling, or broken down into reusable fibre. Nothing is exported, and unusable textiles are shredded into material that can re-enter local making and manufacturing. Blenderz also rescues the smaller materials that often get overlooked: thread, trims, elastic, buttons and other sewing notions. These are reclaimed, sorted and repackaged so makers can create with what already exists. Beyond retail and recycling, Blenderz offers workshops in upcycling and garment repair, helping people develop the skills to keep clothing in use. Its work combines environmental action with community education and practical access to affordable secondhand materials.
