About the practice
Back in 2020 I got into sewing because I initially wanted to make costumes for myself as a cosplayer. As I was learning how to sew using online tutorials on YouTube, I started to also learn about the harmful fast fashion industry from these sewing YouTubers and decided to use the skills I was already learning to do something about it! I was upset at learning what fast fashion has done to our planet and even more frustrated with how they were taking what I know to be a fun and creative skill and forcing garment workers to make clothes under unsafe environments and for little to no pay - which is not fun at all! I quickly turned my cosplay studio into a zero waste upcycled fashion studio and proceeded to practice working on my zero waste designs. After a couple of years having fun upcycling secondhand fabrics and garments into my own creations, it was December of 2022 when I decided on a brand name for my art. My friends and I brainstormed together for hours and came up with nothing. The next morning, as I woke up, I mumbled "1Another" and that was it! I wanted my clothes to connect with one another on a deeper level through the love and intention I have for the future of this planet and our people. My clothing brand would officially be called 1Another: Solarpunk Fashion - 1of1 garments given another chance at love and longevity using secondhand materials and zero waste designs. I currently specialize in turning office wear into streetwear to symbolize our way of breaking out of the status quo and into the streets expressing who you really want to be everyday! I gravitate towards Men's button ups, t-shirts, blazers, and more to create genderless American streetwear silhouettes that can be worn by anyone who has the privilege to be free.
