Daniel Andrade is a Mexican Zero Waste system based in Guadalajara. My practice emerges from the materials and circumstances that make garment-making inevitable: my grandmother’s cotton threads, remnants of silk, and the knowledge embedded in textiles. Shaped by scarcity, heritage, and an enduring curiosity, my work has evolved into a zero-waste practice spanning more than twenty years.

About the practice
My work has always been rooted to what I can express into my surroundings having the hability to recognise the opportunity of creating conditions that make the action of creating a garment inevitable. In my case it has always been thread and textile, from my grandmother stash of cotton thread to the small fabric shop downtown holding the old lady goods of silk that I had to go through to get the most out of whatever leftovers of precious fabric I could get a hold to generate their most meaningful incarnations and by that I build myself taste and look for the goods the stars the main reason I am working now here is because of cancer. Skin cancer brought me back to my old space where for the last 3 years with open wounds in my feet i could go about the whole world in an instant by sourcing and finding the actual goods, the vintage kimono silks, the añil and cochineal from Oaxaca taught by a master dyer from Brooklyn with a sponsorship rewarded in full by claiming the space I needed to feel the Mexican in me take over the right to know about Cochineal And use it well. Now the hunger has landed into a zero waste practice for more than 20 years in the making. A measure that brings me back and forth from kimono to huipil . 35 cms the with of a tanmono and the 1/4 measure of an industrial woven fabric and the main panel in a backstrap loom . My whole world in a room full of wishes and commands while í wait for the wound to physically close. The garden of shadows casting the long black hours and leaving me anew with all this garments all this non philosophical travel I must be exhausted.
