About the practice

At HELD I transform discarded textiles into collectible garments, challenging the idea that sustainable fashion has to look plain, worthy, or compromised. It is always a dance between the design concept, pattern and available textiles. My pieces are often considered wearable art. My first collection was created from discarded wedding & formal dresses, men's suits and other op-shop sourced textiles. It is focussed around volume, texture and movement. Each piece is unique. Currently I am working on another collection using textiles sourced from a local textile manufacturer, exploring the possibilities of diverting all the weird and wonderful waste generated through manufacture and the cut, make, sew process. The collection starts with very simple jersey knits and is elevated through creative fabric manipulation and garment design. We offer ready to purchase pieces or the option to request custom sizes of garments as well as highly individualised garment design. I am extremely excited to work with individuals on custom ideas for special events.
