About the practice
My creative practice working is at the intersection of fashion, art and culture. Its centres around giving discarded clothing a new life, particularly denim and workwear, through patchwork, custom paintwork, reconstruction and expressive detailing. My studio frames upcycling as more than a sustainability strategy: it is a way of building culture and resisting disposable fashion. My pieces are made to be distinctive and durable, using the history embedded in secondhand garments as a creative starting point rather than something to conceal. Zakithi Studios has presented collaborative work with Destroy To Create for the Mr & Miss UJ APB platform. The collection, titled The Antidote, brought together tailored, royal precision with raw, industrial streetwear energy, using upcycled denim jackets and trousers as wearable art. The studio also participates in wider upcycling initiatives, including the SPCC x DAF Upcycled Denim Project and the Upcyclers.com community, and has created patchwork workwear jackets from denim offcuts and discarded materials.
