About the practice
Nomad Surplus Luxury Textiles was established in 2022 by Philippa Farnese to give high-quality mill waste a second life. The business works closely with mills in Scotland and Yorkshire, sourcing excess materials generated during weaving and knitting processes—materials that would otherwise enter waste streams. Its focus is on luxury natural fibres: cashmere, wool, linen and cotton. Stock is deliberately varied and often one-of-a-kind, with new supplies arriving monthly. Customers can buy fabric as remnants by weight, by the metre, or as finished products and creative kits. Nomad frames its work as both environmental and economic. By diverting surplus textiles, it reduces waste and carbon footprint within the textile industry, while helping create employment and giving designers, makers and artists access to exceptional UK-made materials that are not usually available to the public.
