About the practice

Originally from Montreal, Selina Latour holds a BFA from NSCAD University, completed in 2016, and an MFA in Fibres from Concordia University, completed in 2023. She moved to London in 2024, where her practice spans textile art, teaching and professional garment repair. Her repair work focuses on rebuilding damaged knitwear rather than replacing it. Using Swiss darning, she recreates knitted loops with a needle and thread; for finer knits, she also uses woven darning. Depending on the garment and the owner’s wishes, repairs can be discreet or deliberately visible, introducing colour and making the intervention part of the piece’s character. Teaching and collective making are equally central to her work. Her participatory installation, Mending Circle, invites people to learn darning on a seven-foot circular knitting frame. Launched at ARTCH in 2023, the project has involved more than 200 participants through community festivals and arts centres in London and Montreal. Alongside this artistic practice, Latour teaches sewing and textile design and facilitates public workshops in community spaces focused on creative reuse and repair, including The Remakery, Fabrications, Fix It Collective and The Good Life Centre.
