About the practice
Small Victories Craft Dept is a one-person sustainable craft practice based in Newcastle, New South Wales. It sources discarded materials, processes them for reuse, and stitches them into functional pieces of art for everyday use. The studio’s core material is reclaimed yarn, much of it sourced from local charity shops. Textiles such as T-shirts and blankets are transformed into usable crochet yarn through a process called “yarnifying,” while other pieces use repurposed camping rope and reclaimed hardware. Its signature Ghillie bag brings together crochet, camouflage, upcycling and hardcore-music culture. Made from 70–80% recycled materials, it reflects the studio’s approach: turning overlooked materials into distinctive, durable accessories with a clear story. Small Victories also sells crochet tools, looms, yarn cutters, destash yarns and upcycled craft supplies, positioning itself as both a maker brand and a resource for other sustainable makers.
