Costurilena - Cocora Upcycle

Montenegro, Quindío, Colombia

633001

I am Yelena, founder of Costurilena and Cocora Upcycle. I curate sewing courses and patterns and create guides for artisan fairies who want to make a living from their talent. My main work is denim upcycling: I rescue discarded jeans to transform them into new, sellable and sustainable bags, and I teach other artisans to do the same at fairs and on social media.

About the practice

Costurilena is my curation and resource platform, and Cocora Upcycle is my denim upcycling lab. While at Costurilena I curate the best online sewing courses and patterns and create guides to help artisan fairies sell at fairs and on social media, at Cocora Upcycle I put it all into practice: transforming discarded denim jeans into useful, contemporary bags. My purpose is to show that upcycling can be a profitable, creative and circular craft, handmade in Quindío, Colombia.
