Yeug Design

Brussels, Belgium

1440

Yeug Design is a Senegal-based handcrafted urban-fashion label founded by textile artist and costume designer Modou Gueye (Bët, @bet3art). From Saint-Louis, Senegal, Gueye draws on a family sewing heritage and an early passion for embroidery to apply custom chainstitch embroidery onto existing garments, extending their life and story. Through the Sens de vie du textile project with illustrator @leiadjine, the label connects embroidery, drawing and reuse; it produces in Senegal, sells into Belgium, and offers custom garment embellishment through Instagram.

About the practice

Yeug Design makes handcrafted urban fashion in Senegal, with pieces available in Belgium. Orders and collaborations are handled directly through Instagram. His practice gives secondhand and existing clothing renewed visual and cultural life through embroidery, drawing and collaborative making. His artistic practice focuses on exploring embroidery, blending the contemporary with the traditional to showcase Senegal's rich textile heritage. His work currently rests on three main pillars: research through embroidered canvases; his work as a costume designer, which allows him to collaborate with other artists and projects; and his work with the clothing brand Yeug Design, founded by the artist in 2023.
